It has been a grueling three day event for the organizers and volunteers from SPCA, AVA, SMU PAW and all the various shelters who were there from start til the end. They looked real tired when we visited their booths. Nevertheless, there was still a gleam of enthusiasm in each of the volunteers. We guessed that the support from the public was a big morale booster for all of them. They pushed on, each working hard to encourage adoptions, animal welfare, raising funds and most important of all, promoting responsible pet ownership.
For all three days the turn out was great, judging from the crowds we saw when we were there. We've also heard from the AVA volunteers that the 500 goodie bags they've prepared for Day 1 almost ran out by evening!
Billboards promoting responsible pet ownership were displayed all over the mall, up to the 3rd floor. You can imagine how supportive was United Square!
We didn't get to interact much with the volunteers from the adoption drives, but from the crowds that gathered around them we would say that the adoption drive was a success! Never mind how many of them found new homes, the important thing is that now we have more people who knows and understands about the plight of these helpless and abandoned strays or pets!
We would like to congratulate all winners of the "One Minute of Fame" talent show. Thank you for supporting the event by showcasing your pet's skills and tricks. Keep up the good work! Prizes were generously sponsored mainly by FirstMate Pet Foods and PawMart. We also wish to thank the SMU PAW Exco for facilitating the games and prizes. They were really a wonderful bunch of people~
We were strolling down the booths, browsing through the countless merchandises that the shelters are selling. And this shirt caught our eyes!
Behold... The epic T-shirts from Animal Lovers League (ALL), that reads "Kiss My Mutt". Cool right!
A closer look at the cartoon....
We loved the prints the moment we saw it. Bought it immediately. Anyway, the cash proceeds goes to funding the shelters, so we thought, why not? Anyway, Travis is the kind of guy that buys new clothes like once every... 500 years. He had made a commitment that from now on, he will only buy clothes made by animal welfare groups. His three reasons on why he purchased them:
- You can't find those cool prints at any retail shops.
- Its inexpensive, and of good quality.
- At least he knows that the money is well spent towards funding the shelters, not to some money making corporate.
We ended our day there, feeling glad that the event turned out well yet at the same time, feeling dull that it would be quite some time before the next coming pets' event.
So.. which are the few that are coming up in the months ahead?
- Howl-o-ween Dog Contest and Food Donation Drive by SMU ( 15 SEPT - 15 OCT )
- Cat-In-A-Box Flea Market by Cat Welfare Society / Lock & Store ( 12-13 OCT )
- SMU Animal Day ( Dec 2013 )
These are just a few we know of right now, will keep everyone updated!
We shall end here for now, thank you for reading.
Signing off
The Team
